Genuinely excellent Thai food in the middle of a Bavarian village, and it works. The pad thai and curry are outstanding, the service is warm, and it's one of the few places in Helen with late-night hours on weekends. A great change of pace from schnitzel.
Helen's beloved late-night staple for over 20 years. Hearty American pub food, a full bar, and an atmosphere that makes it equally good for a casual lunch or a late-evening nightcap. Open until midnight daily, one of the few options when you're hungry after 9 PM.
The gold standard of authentic German dining in Helen. Chef Aurel Prodan's schnitzel, spaetzle, and Black Forest cake are the real thing, not tourist approximations. One of Helen's most consistently reviewed restaurants, and closed Wednesdays so the team can rest as they should.

Our personal favorite Mexican restaurant in the area, worth the short drive to Cleveland. Family owned since 1997, cooking like mama made it. The fajitas and stuffed poblanos are outstanding, and the housemade green salsa is addictive. Don't skip it just because it's not in Helen.
Georgia's oldest estate winery, located right at the entrance to the Nacoochee Village, you'll pass it on the way to Helen. Award-winning muscadine, Chardonnay, and Georgia-grown varietals. Tasting room is charming and unhurried. A perfect pre-dinner stop.

European pastries, Austrian breakfast, and a genuine Bavarian biergarten (weekends May–November). Hofer's has been a Helen institution for decades, the Belgian waffles, Alpine French toast, and fresh-baked bread are outstanding. Closed Tuesday and Wednesday.
A solid Mexican option in Cleveland with a lively atmosphere. Full bar, three dining rooms, and live Mariachi on Fridays. Voted best Mexican restaurant in Cleveland two years running (2024 and 2025).
You'll find JumpinGoat K-cups and beans stocked at the cabin, they're our coffee of choice across all our properties. If you fall in love with the coffee (and you will), their Tasting Room in Cleveland is the full experience, mountain views, small-batch roasts, mead tastings, and a dog park. Worth the 15-minute drive.
Helen's go-to Mexican restaurant, right in town. Reliable fajitas, enchiladas, and a good margarita selection. Casual and quick, a solid option when you want something different from the German-themed strip.
A cozy gem just off Main Street. Chef Zdenek Muller's fried cheese, mozzarella or brie stuffed with ham, hand-breaded and golden, is unlike anything else in Helen. Also serves schnitzel, goulash, and bratwurst with real craft. Pet-friendly covered patio. Gluten-free friendly with a dedicated fryer.
Hand-tossed hearth-baked pizzas, paninis, and local craft beers, all in the Nacoochee Village just outside the Helen city limits. The "Tavern" as locals call it is a neighborhood gem with an open kitchen and a loyal following. Local wines and craft spirits round out the menu.
Solid Southern BBQ tucked just off the main drag. The brisket and pulled pork are the moves. Outdoor seating, dog friendly, and a welcome change of pace from schnitzel. Hours can be inconsistent so call ahead.

A genuine mom and pop pizza shop just outside Helen on the way to Cleveland. Made-from-scratch dough using a decades-old family recipe. The pizza flight, four mini pies, is a great way to try a few styles. Worth the short drive.
A completely different wine experience, Sweet Acre specializes in pure fruit wines made the old Southern way. No concentrates, no artificial flavoring. The wine slushies on a warm day are dangerous in the best way. Family owned and genuinely charming.
360° mountain views, estate-grown wines, and a genuinely relaxed atmosphere. The Cottage sits on a hilltop about 5 miles north of Cleveland with some of the most breathtaking scenery in North Georgia. Live music on Saturdays, pet friendly on the patio.

The crown jewel of the Chattahoochee National Forest, twin waterfalls (York Creek and Curtis Creek) converging in a stunning gorge. The paved 0.4-mile trail makes it accessible to all fitness levels, but don't let that fool you: it's breathtaking. Go early morning to beat the crowds and catch the mist in the light.
A strenuous summit hike with sweeping views of the Sautee Nacoochee valley. The Army Rangers use it for training, so you may pass exercises along the trail. Summit rocks offer 360° panoramic views and are worth every step. About 5 miles round trip with significant elevation gain, bring water and good shoes.

A moderately challenging 2.2-mile round-trip trail descending through stunning gorge scenery to a 150-foot waterfall. Less crowded than Anna Ruby and arguably more dramatic. The trail involves significant elevation change, wear good shoes and go at your own pace. Magical in fall color season.
Home to the largest 1/32 scale slot car road course in the USA. Multiple tracks for all skill levels, races from $5. Spectating is always free. One of those hidden gems that ends up being the highlight of the trip. Kids love it. Adults get unexpectedly hooked.
Axe throwing in a mountain town, why not? AxeBilly is surprisingly fun, even for first-timers. Instructors guide you through everything. Perfect for a rainy afternoon, a competitive couple's activity, or just a memorable story to take home.
About 20 min away in Cleveland. The original Cabbage Patch Kids "hospital" — pure Southern whimsy. Free admission, hourly Mother Cabbage "birth" ceremonies, and rooms full of dolls in their nurseries. Pure magic for kids, a nostalgia trip for adults who grew up in the '80s. Adopt your own Cabbage Patch Kid on the way out.
At 4,784 feet, Brasstown Bald is the highest point in Georgia, and the 360° views from the summit observatory on a clear day are genuinely humbling. The 0.6-mile summit trail is steep but rewarding, or take the shuttle. About 45 minutes from the cabin. Best in fall for foliage.
Not actually a cafe — you don't eat there, you pet and feed the animals. Hour-long experiences with capybaras, fennec foxes, prairie dogs, hedgehogs, miniature deer, and more. Small groups (often just 6 people per session) so you get real hands-on time with every animal. Reservation required. One of Helen's most unique experiences, right next to Nacoochee Adventures.
A relaxed, intimate winery with mountain views and a lovely tasting room. Creekstone's Georgian wines are approachable and food-friendly, a nice contrast to Habersham's estate style. The outdoor seating is peaceful and perfect for a slow afternoon with a glass.
Georgia's original gold rush town, about 45 minutes west. A charming square ringed with wineries, galleries, and gold mines, BabyLand General Hospital (Cabbage Patch Kids original home!) is also nearby. The Dahlonega wine trail rivals Napa in scenery if not scale. A full day is warranted.
A gravity-powered alpine coaster that lets you control your own speed as you wind through the mountains. More thrilling than you'd expect, especially on the way back up. Riders of all ages love it. Right in downtown Helen, you can walk there if you're staying nearby. Lines move quickly.
A perfectly preserved 19th-century farm now run as a Georgia State Historic Site. The Italianate house, dairy barn, and grounds give a vivid window into 1870s mountain life. House tours run Thursday–Saturday. A paved walking trail connects the farm all the way to downtown Helen, a slow, scenic mile each way.
North Georgia's largest indoor family entertainment complex. Go-karts (adult and kids), laser tag, arcade, and Tiny Towne, a miniature driving town for little ones. Check helenfunfactory.com for current attractions and hours as the lineup has recently changed.
Northeast Georgia's only indoor pickleball facility with 4 state-of-the-art cushioned courts. Open play, lessons, leagues, glow-in-the-dark nights, and date night pickleball. All skill levels welcome. Hours vary, call ahead or check helenindoorpickleball.com.

About 6 mi from the cabin in Sautee Nacoochee. Helen's zip line adventure park — canopy tours and zip lines through the forest, with multiple tour options for different age and thrill levels (the Big Bear Canyon zip and the canopy moonshine tour are the popular picks). Guides are widely praised, especially with kids. Bring closed-toe shoes.
A working 1876 water-powered grist mill on the Chattahoochee, one of the oldest operating mills in Georgia. Watch the stone-ground grits, cornmeal, and flour being made, then buy a bag to bring home. The grits are exceptional. A peaceful, educational stop that feels like stepping back in time.
About 35 min from the cabin in Cleveland. Far more than a petting zoo — a genuine wildlife park with a wide variety of animals (chinchillas, highland cows, fennec foxes, capybaras) and knowledgeable guides giving walking tours. Hands-on animal encounter experiences available for an extra fee. Excellent for families. Closed Mon & Wed.
Pan for real gold and gemstones: rubies, sapphires, emeralds, amethyst, topaz, and more. All panning tables are covered so it works rain or shine. Staff help identify every find. Kids absolutely love it, and adults get surprisingly hooked too. Seasonal, call ahead to confirm.
One of Georgia's most impressive waterfalls, a four-tier cascade dropping 400 feet through a narrow granite gorge. The 5-mile round-trip trail is one of the most scenic in the state. The final reveal through the cliff opening is genuinely spectacular. A great full-morning adventure.
Completely original escape room experiences you will not find anywhere else. The Master Key room is a crowd favorite. Small-group feel with an owner who genuinely cares about making it memorable.
Georgia's largest castle and one of the most genuinely unique places in the state. Twelve towers including an 8-story lookout with 360 Blue Ridge Mountain views, philosophical murals, a tropical atrium, and 2.5 acres of gardens. Open Saturdays only during public hours. Georgia's most popular state park, right in your backyard at just 3.3 miles. Swimming lake, trout-stocked streams, mountain biking, hiking trails of all levels, and a lodge restaurant. Beach area open in summer. The 6-mile Unicoi Lake loop is a gorgeous morning walk through the forest.

Extra linens for the sleeper sofa are stored inside the coffee table in the living room. Towels for all guests, including 3rd and 4th guests, are hanging in the bathroom.
Gas Fireplace: Available year-round. Use the remote on the mantle, it controls everything. Do not touch the gas logs themselves or make any adjustments to the log controls directly. If you have trouble, reach out to us. A few things that should go without saying: no matches, no cooking over the flame, no roasting marshmallows, and no trash in the fireplace.
Heating & Cooling, Daikin Mini-Splits: The cabin has two Daikin mini-split units, one in the kitchen and one in the bedroom. Remotes are mounted on the wall near each unit.

Mountain power can flicker during storms, it's rare, but we're prepared. You'll find a Power Outage Kit in the TV stand in the living room:
Outages in Sautee are typically brief. The hot tub will resume normal function when power returns. If an outage lasts more than an hour, text us and we'll check in.
